How to play Dominoes

Dominoes gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Double-six draw dominoes, local two players with shared-screen visible hands.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Empty your hand, or hold fewer pips when both players are blocked. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Step by step

  1. Play a tile matching either open chain end.
  2. Choose which end to use.
  3. Draw only when no tile fits.
  4. Pass only with no legal tile and an empty stock.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

A useful example

An open 4 accepts 4–2, leaving 2 open. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Choose a deliberate next step.

Watch out for this

You cannot ignore a legal match to draw. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
